Yuko Imai (born 21 October 1967) is a Tokyo singer-songwriter who debuted on King Records in 1987 and is best known for the Toshiki Kadomatsu-produced album Do Away (1990).[1]
Career
Raised on jazz through her mother and scouted at 18, Imai debuted on 21 July 1987 with the single “Kanashimi no Pavement” and an album released the same day on King Records. “Niji-iro no Aura” (1988) became the theme of the TBS drama Mama no Iro-enpitsu, and her 1991 cover of Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You” was also used as a TBS drama theme.[1]
Kadomatsu and later work
Toshiki Kadomatsu, whom she regards as a mentor, produced Do Away (1990); Tower Records reissued it in remastered form as Do Away +4 in 2019. After Living Color (1997) she spent around ten years as a voice trainer before returning with I Wish… (2007). Her 2016 best-of Sweetest Voice includes a new cover of Miki Matsubara’s “Mayonaka no Door ~Stay with Me~”.[1]
