Toshiki Kadomatsu is a Japanese guitarist, singer and producer, described as one of the pioneers of city pop, whose dance-floor-minded records brought New York boogie into 1980s Japanese pop.[1]
Debut
Born in Shibuya, Tokyo, in 1960, Kadomatsu studied philosophy at Nihon University, where he played in the university music club. He debuted in 1981 with the single “Yokohama Twilight Time” and the album Sea Breeze on RCA.[1]
Producer
Kadomatsu was in demand as a producer for other singers: he produced Anri’s Timely!! and Miho Nakayama’s Catch the Nite, both Oricon No. 1 albums, and worked with Akina Nakamori and the band Jadoes.[1]
Later career
His instrumental album Sea Is a Lady (1987) reached No. 4. After a 1993–1998 hiatus spent on production and songwriting he returned with a 1999 tour, and has since marked every fifth anniversary with a major concert.[1]
