Each Time is a 1984 album by Eiichi Ohtaki, his only No. 1 album and the last he released before his death in 2013. Generally treated as a companion to A Long Vacation, it was issued without any singles.[1]
Background
First scheduled for 28 July 1983, the album was delayed after recordings were scrapped; Ohtaki apologised by performing with the session musicians at the 1983 Seibu Stadium festival, his last performance under his own name.[1] The title comes from his radio nickname, “Each Ohtaki”, and the cover illustration is by Hisao Kawada.[1]
Release
Ohtaki deliberately cut no singles, aiming to challenge the industry belief that an album needed a hit to sell.[1] It topped the Oricon CD chart for three consecutive weeks and sold about 600,000 copies; Ohtaki then announced a break from music and never performed its songs live.[1] Later editions altered the running order and added “Bachelor Girl” and “Fjord no Shōjo”.[1]
