Paraiso is Haruomi Hosono’s fourth solo album, released on Alfa on 25 April 1978. Credited with the Yellow Magic Band, it closed his tropical trilogy and pointed toward Yellow Magic Orchestra.[1]
Background
The album continues the Hawaiian- and Okinawan-influenced style of Tropical Dandy and Bon Voyage co. while adding the electronic sounds that would develop in Hosono’s work with YMO.[1][2]
Recording
Recorded between December 1977 and January 1978, it was the first record to feature the Yellow Magic Band, made up of Tin Pan Alley musicians and studio players including Shigeru Suzuki, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yukihiro Takahashi and Hirofumi Tokutake, with Hiroshi Sato on keyboards and Taeko Onuki among the backing singers.[1]
