Mignonne is the third studio album by Taeko Onuki (credited as Ohnuki), released on 21 September 1978 — her first for RCA/RVC. It contains “4:00 A.M.”, now her most-streamed song.[1]
Background
Following Sunshower (1977), Onuki moved to RCA/RVC, where producer Eji Ogura oversaw the sessions; she later said she felt a lack of control and believed the label, wanting strong sales, gave her less creative freedom than before.[1] The single “Jajauma Musume” was released on the same day as the album.[1]
Recording
Arrangements were split between Ichizō Seo and Ryuichi Sakamoto, with a cast including Shigeru Suzuki, Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, Tatsuo Hayashi and Masayoshi Takanaka.[1]
Legacy
“4:00 A.M.” has become her most popular song, passing 147 million Spotify streams by May 2026.[1] A Bernie Grundman–remastered vinyl reissue on 23 May 2018 reached No. 30 on Oricon.[1]
