Hosono House is the first solo studio album by Haruomi Hosono, released on 25 May 1973 and recorded at his home in Sayama, Saitama.[1][2]
Background
Hosono made the album after Happy End broke up, recording between 15 February and 16 March 1973 in Amerika-mura, an American-style neighbourhood of Sayama.[1][2] Performances were captured in a small bedroom with a 16-track console set up in the living room, and recording the room sound rather than direct inputs gave the album its distinctive bleed.[1][2] It was the first recording by the musicians who became Caramel Mama — Masataka Matsutoya, Shigeru Suzuki and Tatsuo Hayashi — though the band is not credited by name; Hosono cited The Band’s Music from Big Pink and James Taylor’s One Man Dog as influences.[1][2]
Release and legacy
“Koi wa Momoiro” was issued as a single on 25 September 1973 backed with “Fuku wa Uchi Oni wa Soto”.[1][2] The album was reissued on CD by Bellwood/King in 2012 for the label’s 40th anniversary, and has also been issued by Light in the Attic.[1][2] Harry Styles named his 2022 album Harry’s House in a nod to the record.[1]
