Yoko Minamino is a Japanese singer and actress who rose to fame in Sukeban Deka II and became one of the late-1980s idol “Four Divas”, with nine Oricon No. 1 singles on CBS/Sony.[1][2]
Career
Minamino made her television debut in 1984 and became a star playing Saki Asamiya in the second season of Sukeban Deka (1985–1986).[1] She debuted as a singer on her 18th birthday, 23 June 1985, with “恥ずかしすぎて” on CBS/Sony.[2] “楽園のDoor” (1987), a theme for the Sukeban Deka film, gave her a first Oricon No. 1, starting a run of eight consecutive chart-toppers capped by “フィルムの向こう側” (1989).[1][2]
Sound and later work
Her records were shaped by arranger Mitsuo Hagita and CBS/Sony producer-director Yoshida (吉田格), and the albums Garland (1987) and Gauche (1989) both reached No. 1 on Oricon.[1][2] Ranked alongside Shizuka Kudo, Miho Nakayama and Yui Asaka as one of the era’s Four Divas, she suspended singing in 1992 to focus on acting, winning the 1993 Yokohama Film Festival Best Actress award, and released new songs in 2021 for the first time in 16 years.[1][2]
