Yasuhiro Abe is a Japanese singer-songwriter who debuted on Toshiba EMI in 1982 and, with Junichi Inagaki and Yudai Suzuki, was billed as one of the label’s “new wave four”.[1]
Early career
Abe studied architecture at university, where Eiichi Ohtaki was a senior, and favoured bossa nova early on.[1] He reached the finals of the 1977 Yamaha Popular Song Contest with “セプテンバー・バレンタイン”, a song later covered by EPO, played in Masamichi Sugi’s band, and worked as a studio musician, chorus singer and songwriter for Mariya Takeuchi, Junichi Inagaki, Crystal King and Junko Ohashi.[1]
Solo career
Inspired by the success of Akira Terao’s “ルビーの指環”, he debuted in November 1982 with the single “We Got It!/裸足のバレリーナ”, followed by the album Hold Me Tight in March 1983; he stayed at Toshiba EMI until 1988 and released eleven original albums between 1983 and 1995.[1] From 1990 to 1992 he played guitar and sang chorus in Kazumasa Oda’s Far East Club Band, and in 1999 formed the unit A,M,S & I with Kazuhito Murata, Yudai Suzuki and Hiroyuki Izuta.[1][2]
