PANTA (Haruo Nakamura) was the frontman of the radical rock band Zunō Keisatsu (Brain Police), who also built a solo career and wrote the city-pop-styled “Moonlight Surfer” for Seri Ishikawa.[1][2]
Career
PANTA led Zunō Keisatsu in the early 1970s until its 1975 break-up, then formed PANTA & HAL (1977–1981). His solo albums included PANTAX’S WORLD (1976), マラッカ (1979), 1980X (1980), KISS (1981) and 唇にスパーク (1982).[1] Real Sound describes a pop-maker side behind the Zunō Keisatsu image, citing “Moonlight Surfer” (1979), written for Seri Ishikawa under his real name as a summer-night song “in a city pop style”, and his long friendship with Keiichi Suzuki, with whom he formed P.K.O.[2]
Death
Diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2021, PANTA gave his last performance on 14 June 2023, singing several songs seated, and died in a hospital in Kiyose, Tokyo on 7 July 2023, aged 73.[3]
