Masaki Ueda is a Kyoto-born R&B and soul singer whose 1982 ballad “悲しい色やね”, composed by Tetsuji Hayashi, became his biggest hit.[1][2]
Career
Ueda made his record debut in 1972 with “金色の太陽が燃える朝に” while a student at Gifu University, and in 1974 formed Masaki Ueda & South to South, a band that broke up in 1976, after which he went solo.[1][2] His solo albums included Push & Pull (1978), Jealous Night (1981) and Husky (1983).[1]
Hits and later work
“悲しい色やね”, with lyrics by Yasuharu Kō and music by Tetsuji Hayashi, was released in 1982 and spread via cable radio to become a hit in 1983; a 1988 film directed by Yoshimitsu Morita took its title from the song.[1][2] He performed at Live Aid in 1985, and later found success abroad with “Forever Peace”, a 2001 duet with Reza Artamevia that topped the Indonesian chart.[1][2]
