Kiyotaka Sugiyama is a Japanese singer-songwriter, the voice of S. Kiyotaka & Omega Tribe (1983–1985), and afterwards a solo artist whose first three albums all reached the top two of the Oricon chart.[1]
Omega Tribe
Sugiyama joined the Yokohama band Cutie Panchos as lead vocalist in 1979; scouted by producer Koichi Fujita, it debuted in 1983 as S. Kiyotaka & Omega Tribe with “Summer Suspicion”.[1][2] The band split at the end of 1985.[1]
Solo career
His solo debut “Sayonara Ocean” followed in 1986; Beyond… and Realtime to Paradise both topped the Oricon albums chart, and three consecutive singles — “Mizu no Naka no Answer”, “Shade” and “Kaze no Lonely Way” — reached No. 1.[1] He lived in Hawaii from 1990 to 2006, an influence audible in later albums such as Island Afternoon.[1]
