Katsuhiko Nakagawa was a Tokyo-born singer, actor and radio personality who recorded for Warner-Pioneer and Alfa Records before his death from leukemia at 32; he was the father of Shoko Nakagawa.[1][2]
Career
Nakagawa’s entry into music came through an appearance at NHK’s Young Music Festival in 1980. Members of the Moonriders supported his early work, and he formed the unit MAJI-MAGIC with Char.[1] After his Warner-Pioneer years he released CRACK SICK and MADE IN JAPAN on Alfa Records in 1991. He also worked as an actor, radio host and picture-book author.[1]
Illness and legacy
Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in September 1992, he returned to work after treatment but relapsed and died on 17 September 1994, aged 32.[1][2] Thirteen Warner-era titles were made available on streaming services in February 2024, and his daughter Shoko Nakagawa marked 30 years since his death that September.[1][2]
