Hidemi Ishikawa is a former Japanese idol singer of the celebrated 1982 debut class who recorded 30 singles for RVC between 1982 and 1990.[1]
Career
Ishikawa was chosen in December 1981 from 55,460 applicants in a talent contest named after Hideki Saijo, and debuted on 21 April 1982 with “妖精時代” on RVC (later BMG Victor).[1] Her second single, “ゆ・れ・て湘南”, followed, and the album 16・祭 (1983) became her best Oricon showing at No. 4. Between 1983 and 1985 eight of her songs charted on TBS’s The Best Ten, peaking at No. 7 with “ミステリーウーマン” and “愛の呪文”.[1]
Later years
Around 1985 Ishikawa moved toward a rock-oriented sound, performing with the band Pink Elephants from about 1988, and her “危ないボディ・ビート” was covered in Cantonese by Vivian Chow in 1988.[1] She married Hirohide Yakumaru in June 1990 and has been effectively retired since.[1]
