Atsuko Nina is a singer from Osaka who first recorded as Eri Hayakawa before re-debuting in 1983 and becoming known for summery, resort-themed city pop on the Invitation label.[1]
Career
Nina debuted in 1979 under the name Eri Hayakawa with the single “誘われて夏” on Teichiku, followed by the album City in 1981.[1] She re-debuted as Atsuko Nina with Play Room in 1983, but Loco Island (1984, Invitation) is regarded as her real starting point; from then on her style moved from kayōkyoku to city pop centred on summer and island themes, continued on Windy Island and Naturally (both 1985).[1] Songs were used in advertising, including “渚のフェイム” for a Max Factor summer campaign and “オレンジバスケット” for Kirin Orange.[1]
Retirement and return
After Fluorescent Lamp (1987), her only album written entirely by herself, she withdrew following marriage and childbirth.[1] A Golden Best compilation appeared in 2009; she guested with Kazuhito Murata in 2011, staged a solo comeback concert in 2013, and Tower Records issued limited reissues of her Invitation albums in 2013–14, with Play Room and Fluorescent Lamp reissued in 2018.[1]
