Toki sang lead in the rock band Cymbals from 1997 to 2003.[1] Her solo debut was Standards (2004), a covers album co-produced by her father, jazz saxophonist Hidefumi Toki; after releases on Pacific Records she made her major-label debut with Talkin’ (2007) on Avex’s Rhythm Zone.[1] Touch (2009) became her first album to enter the Oricon top 50, peaking at No. 33.[1]
City pop
Her albums Pink (2017), Safari (2018) and Passion Blue (2019), produced by Tomi Yo, are referred to as her “City Pop Trilogy”, a contemporary take on the genre.[1] Since 2019 she has released on A.S.A.B, including Twilight (2021) and Lonely Ghost (2024); her single “Home” was the opening theme for the second season of Fruits Basket (2020).[1]
